New to Club Volleyball?
The mission of Heart of America Volleyball (HOA) is to promote and grow the sport of volleyball at all ages and skill levels. As 1 of 40 regions of USA Volleyball, our region provides a platform for quality volleyball experience in education, training, and competition. Our region promotes safe and welcoming environments. We prioritize child safety by requiring all adults involved with juniors to complete safety training/certification.

Age Division
Use our Junior Age Calculator to determine your player’s eligible age division.
Competition Level
Volleyball clubs have the choice to decide which of their teams are Premier or Select level. Premier volleyball teams are considered higher competition compared to Select. Premier volleyball teams may utilize names such as “Elite” or “National.” Select volleyball teams may utilize names such as “Regional” or “Local.”
**We highly recommend familiarizing yourself with each clubs expectations for their team levels.**
The HOA Ranking System can directly compare the ranking value of Premier and Select level teams.

- Club Activities That Are Sanctioned/Not Sanctioned By HOA
-
Sanctioned Activities
Sanctioned activities by HOA volleyball are covered by USA Volleyball insurance. These activities include tryouts, open gyms, practices, & tournaments. For these activities to be sanctioned under HOA Volleyball, all participating members must be registered and eligible. Typically, all events that are sanctioned by HOA Volleyball are posted on our website.
Not Sanctioned
Other events, clinics, camps, tryouts, open gyms, private lessons, etc. that are organized by HOA Volleyball affiliated clubs, groups, or individuals are outside the scope and regulations of HOA Volleyball. These events are not sanctioned, regulated, or covered by insurance by HOA Volleyball or USA Volleyball.
- Signing Dates, Agreements, & Club Fees
-
Signing Dates
**Please review the HOA Recruiting Policy to ensure your player stays in compliance with recruiting and commitment rules.**
Agreements
Make sure you read all details before you sign any agreement. It is recommended to have copies of your agreement. Volleyball clubs may ask for a deposit at the time of signing an agreement. Please refer to the HOA Recruiting Policy for offer & commitment dates.
HOA Volleyball is not a party to any of the agreements between players and clubs. We do not determine the fee structure of the clubs. We do not tell players which clubs to join. We do not tell clubs what they must offer or at what cost. We do not collect fees for the clubs. We do not interfere if players decide to quit and want a refund.
Club Fees
Club Fees are determined by each individual club and HOA Volleyball does not determine the fee structure. With that said, some club fees are all-inclusive, other clubs will add cost for coaches’ travel, uniforms and various other expenses to the fees. Make sure to check up front what is included with the club fee.
- The Registration Process
-
The regular indoor membership season runs from September 1st until August 31st. Registration for the new season will start in September. To get registered, junior player members will receive a club assignment request from the club they are playing for in the season. Players who plan to attend tryouts October-December need to purchase a “HOA-TO Tryout – Oct-Dec” membership. This membership can be purchased HERE.
The only time you may need a membership before September 1 is if you want to attend summer tryouts and are not a current member. For this purpose you can use the “HOA-S3 Summer Junior Player” or “HOA-S8 Summer Junior Player – SafeSport Required” membership. These memberships expire on August 31st. If you make a team, you will need to purchase the full indoor membership for the upcoming season (starting in September). The summer membership is non-refundable.
Once a membership is purchased that is affiliated with a volleyball club, that membership can not be changed to another volleyball club unless a formal transfer takes place. Transfers require a written release from the volleyball club the membership is affiliated with. It is highly recommended to NOT accept an invite from a volleyball club that you do not plan to commit to.
Junior players are allowed to talk with other volleyball clubs for the upcoming season during the Permitted Recruiting Period.
- Club Volleyball Tournament Formats
-
Club volleyball is typical played in tournament formats. Single day tournaments typically start play at 8 am and play concludes around 6-7pm for Saturday tournaments and 4-5pm for Sunday tournaments. Teams will start a tournament with pool play and the top 2-3 finishers will go to single elimination playoffs. If your team is eliminated after pool play, the team may be done around 2-3 pm for the day.
Three day tournaments are usually played in waves, in which teams play the first 2 days either from 8am until about 3pm or from about 2pm until 10pm. Third day is typically single elimination. For two day events, several formats are possible.
At the multiple day events, usually R1 (up-official) are provided and the teams will have to fulfill the other officiating duties (keep score, down ref, line judge etc.). For most one day tournaments the teams will also provide the R1 (up-official).
